It kind of goes without saying that these are unprecedented times. It’s taken a good couple weeks for things to sink in and to make peace with accepting reality…and not that I’m all the way there yet, but we’re trying.
Like you, I’m doing my best trying to fill my days productively while remembering to think about the outside world, while still yet staying inside. One way to support our community during the pandemic is to patronize where you can, when you can, if you’re able. Check to see if your favorite local businesses sell gift cards online, and don’t forget your local nonprofits - most are set up to receive donations online, and most REALLY need any help you can give right now.
Onto the lighter portion!
If you, like me, are taking a part of this time to reconsider the arrangement of art on your walls, there’s no time like quaran-time!
Personally speaking, at any given time I have an ongoing collection of things that I’m going to frame and hang “when I have time.” Unsurprisingly, my most recent collection is going on about eight years now, because it’s not so often that an empty chunk of time walks up, tugs on your sleeve, and glances suggestively at the closet corner/under the bed/that poster tube I’ve had since 2001.
It’s not so much that I have FREE time under shelter-in-place while trying to keep my three kids somewhat educated (and still function as a human) - in some ways, we’re even busier. But, as it turns out, there’s nothing like staring at your same four walls day in and day out to really move home improvement up the list.
That’s what led me to pull out a measuring tape and start consolidating my “items” (whether we’re talking artwork, snapshots, or a vinyl Krispy Kreme sign circa 2005 (it’s a long story) and existing frames. Because here’s the thing: I adore minimalism; I drool over clean-lined, overbearingly monochromatic, sparsely adorned magazine spreads on the regular - but if we’re being totally honest, my actual style is a little busier (some may say “cluttered”). The ideal, I just-haven’t-had-time-to-work-out-the-blueprints-yet layout I have in mind is basically a sweeping geometric collage. I’ve been poking around trying to find the best way to lay out said sweeping collage that doesn’t involve a whole lot of to-scale math and I haven’t found the perfect solution yet, but I did find a site called Art Placer that shows promise. I’ll definitely keep you in the loop and let you know if it turns out to be a winner!
HOWEVER, you, my lucky clients, have it so much easier. Why, you ask? Because if photos is what you want on your walls, I can do all the arranging for you. Meet Collagewall!

The collage the lower lefthand corner is mine, and it’s just the right size to aesthetically fill the wall above my desk, and I really love having it there for whenever my eyes wander mid-brainstorm.

Each panel is individually mounted and hung on the wall. That means it’s super simple to switch out an image with a more recent one, OR to add additional panels one-by-one to your existing arrangement.
Panels are available in wood-mounted paper prints OR aluminum prints in a gloss or matte finish. They’re all gorgeous, but I was totally stunned by the matte metal prints. They’re out of this world.
There are THIRTY-SEVEN different layouts to choose from, ranging from three to 40+ images and layout sizes of 2’x1’ to 3’x10’.
They are really simple to install, believe it or not, and if you’re local to Fairbanks you don’t even have to worry about that, because I’ll do it for you!
